‘Suisen’ is the most important modern satsuki cultivar, with respect to flower display. No other cultivar was used more in creating new varieties. But the variety itself is also noteworthy, featuring thick petaled star-shaped flowers with a good mix of red variegation on a white background. The blotch is relatively prominent, but not outstanding. The plant habit of ‘Suisen’ is not outstanding, but still suitable for bonsai. And reliable in growing and propagating more plants.
